FARE Kids Who Care

Food Allergy Action Hero: Amelia Maggiore, The Hometown Hero

This winter was the snowiest season ever in Hopkinton, MA; 108 inches of snow fell on the town this year! So when Amelia Maggiore heard about a contest run by local Abu Realtors that challenged residents to dig snow off of fire hydrants in their city, she and her brother took action!

Amelia Takes Action

Being 12 years old, Amelia may not appear to be the strongest with a shovel, but she was determined to win the contest. Her determination came from the prize money – $250 that she intended to donate to FARE to support our efforts to fund research and educate about the serious nature of food allergies.

Amelia won the contest, and was able to donate her prize winnings to FARE! Amelia is allergic to milk, and is a huge supporter of our organization. She attended the FARE Teen Summit for the last two years, which made a “huge difference” in her life. We are so honored to benefit from her efforts to win this contest. This is just one example of how simple it can be to make a difference. Amelia saw the contest as a way to raise funds and awareness about food allergies, and she seized the moment!

May is Food Allergy Action Month! We are profiling and thanking our Food Allergy Action Heroes throughout the month of May to show the many ways that our community is making a difference.
