Food Allergy Awareness Week is fast approaching. This year, FARE is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the first Food Allergy Awareness Week and 20 years of action, education, and support. While there are many ways to get involved throughout the month of May, here are our top five suggestions.
1. Download free resources to share in your community.
Posters, infographics, #TealTakeover signs, and more are available for free at foodallergyweek.org. Download a poster, print it at home, and post at your library, school, community center, or other community bulletin board.
2. Use #TealTakeover and update your social profile picture to help us spread the word.
Social media connects us with people all over the country. Whenever you post about Food Allergy Awareness Week, be sure to use the hashtag #TealTakeover. Update your social profile pictures with the 20th Anniversary logo. Be sure to connect with FARE’s official social media pages and share those posts as well!
3. Order official merchandise at store.foodallergy.org where all proceeds fund research.
The FARE e-Store offers official merchandise such as #TealTakeoverToolkits, printed posters, teal awareness shoelaces, sunglasses, pins, and more. These products are all perfect to start a conversation about food allergy awareness. All proceeds from the e-Store fund food allergy research.
4. Learn about the history of food allergy with FARE’s Food Allergy Milestones Timeline.
Did you know that President Barack Obama issued a special message for Food Allergy Awareness Week in 2015? Or that the Be A PAL® program launched in 1999? Learn more about these and other milestones on FARE’s interactive online Food Allergy Milestones Timeline.
5. Check out The Empire State Building on May 14 as it turns teal for Food Allergy Awareness Week.
The Empire State Building will be lit teal again this year in honor of Food Allergy Awareness Week. If you are in the New York City area, be sure to check it out and get a picture. For a list of other buildings around the country that will be turning teal, visit turnitteal.org.
